Volunteer Information


VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: 

 

Kamloops Minor Hockey could not operate without the help of our valued volunteers. We are seeking volunteers in the following areas. If you are interested in volunteering for Kamloops Minor Hockey please send an email to Shawna at kmhaicescheduling@gmail.com

 

Volunteer Roles of KMHA

Committee members for

  • Rep Hockey - general oversight and monitoring of the representative divisions within the Association.

  • Rec Hockey - general oversight and monitoring of the recreation divisions within the Association.

  • Finances - oversight related to the Society’s auditing and reporting, financial policies and strategies, and financial risk management.

  • Human Resources - responsible for overseeing the establishment of employment policies for the Society’s staff and for policies related to volunteers, and for monitoring compliance with those policies.

  • Conduct - for establishing and monitoring standards of behavior, identifying inappropriate behaviors, promoting proactive strategies, establishing and monitoring disciplinary policy and establishing and monitoring dispute resolution processes

  • Risk Management - ensuring the development and implementation of a comprehensive risk management program and for monitoring compliance with program standards and objectives.

  • Female Hockey - making recommendations for athlete development related to female recreational and competitive hockey, for sharing best practices, and for providing the Board with advice on key issues affecting female hockey. 

  • Hockey Development - responsible for the general oversight of the Society’s development programs by ensuring the establishment of program practice standards, monitoring compliance with such standards, monitoring performance of programs against approved objectives, and providing regulation and budget recommendations.

On Ice Helpers for all Divisions - Assisting coaches and Head instructors with all on ice duties. Some courses and qualifications required.

Coaches for all Divisions - Assisting athletes in developing to their full potential by analyzing their performances, instructing in relevant skills and by providing encouragement. Courses and qualifications required.

Managers for all Divisions - Team managers help alleviate some of the workload on the coaches by handling, or delegating some of the smaller tasks associated with organizing the team and serving as a line of communication between the club registrar and the parents. Some courses and qualifications required.

Safety Person - Safety people who implement effective risk management programs with their own teams where player safety is the first priority at all times, both on and off the ice. Some courses and qualifications required.

Player Evaluators - People with an adequate level of hockey knowledge who can provide an unbiased evaluation of multiple skills to assemble the best players for a team within the organization.

Tournament Helpers - Assist with KMHA tournaments and provide input and support to the committee to produce a quality tournament that will raise funds for the local teams and provide a valuable experience for the players. 

Event Planners - Assist the office with putting together the few special events they host in a season, ie) photo day, volunteer appreciation, provincials etc.

Jersey Distribution- Organizing jerseys for distribution at the start of the season, and collection at the end of the season.  

Jersey Parents- Each team requires a jersey parent or 2 to manage the team jerseys for the season. This means washing and hang drying and bringing the appropriate color to the game days.

 

 

 

COACHES/MANAGERS/SAFETY PEOPLE

These roles all require completion of courses.All required courses are available through the BC Hockey website -  BC Hockey Clinics

You will need your Hockey Canada ID number to register to take a course. If you do not know your ID number please contact the KMHA office at kamhockey@telus.net with your full name and birth date and your ID number will be emailed back to you. All courses taken will be reimbursed from KMHA upon completion of the course requirements.

* Development 1 or High Performance 1 

* Checking Skills (Peewee & Bantam)

 

Recreation Coaching Requirements:

* Respect in Sport (for Activity Leaders) - different from the Parent RIS course

* Criminal Record Check - (valid for 3 years)

* CATT - Concussion Awareness Training Tool

* Coach 2 or Hybrid Course

* Coach 1 for Novice and Initiation age groups

* Checking Skills (Atom, Peewee & Bantam)

 

Safety Person Requirements:

* HU-Safety course (Hockey Canada Safety Person)

* Respect in Sport (for Activity Leaders) - different from the Parent RIS course

* Criminal Record Check - (valid for 3 years)

* CATT - Concussion Awareness Training Tool

 

Team Manager Requirements:

Please note that ALL On Ice Helpers MUST be approved and registered in the Hockey Canada registry to be eligible to go on the ice. Names and birthdates of On Ice Helpers must be provided to the KMHA office.
