Initiation (4 to 6 yr olds)

2019-2020 Season

INITIATION is for players born in 2013, 2014 & 2015.

Registration opened online February 1st for returning players in Initiation. New and transferring players can begin registering June 1st, 2019. Online registration is not available for players new to our association. You can register in person at the KMHA office or by sending in the form via fax, email or mail. A copy of your child's birth certificate must accompany the registration. Registration fees are due by July 1st. Fees for new players registered after July 1st will be due at the time of registration. For more information on registration, and forms of payment accepted, etc. please go to the REGISTRATION page on this website.

The registration fee for Initiation aged returning players is $470. First time Initiation aged players pay $235 for registration fees. A $100 jersey deposit is also due at the time of registration. This is a one time fee that will be refunded to you when your child no longer registers with our association, as long as the jersey is returned at the end of each season in acceptable condition.

KMHA made it mandatory starting in the 2013-2014 season that all players have a parent/guardian take the Respect in Sport (Parent) course prior to participation. The cost of the course is $12 per family, and course information can be found on the right hand side of this page. Please note: this course MUST be completed before your child will be allowed on the ice.

KMHA is a volunteer driven association.

Our season begins September 28th with player evaluations. Players will be placed on teams once evaluated. Players must wear full equipment for all ice times (helmet, neck guard, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, athletic protection, pants, shin guards, skates) and bring their own stick. Once players are placed on a team, jerseys and socks will be distributed. The season will end in March, before Spring Break.

Initiation teams have 2 ice times per week; 1 after school on a weekday and 1 on the weekend. Ice times are 45 minutes in length. Teams will be on the ice Monday or Tuesday and again on Saturday with all ice times at Brock Arena.

Core to the program

  • The Initiation Program is a progressive, learn-to-play teaching curriculum. Children learn through participating in practice drills and informal modified games.
  • The program consists of four phases of instruction, designed for any entry-level hockey player, which introduce the skills of skating, passing, puck control and shooting in a progressive, one-step-at-a-time manner.

Initiation Program Objectives

  • A comprehensive program for the development of young children as hockey players.
  • The focus is on skill development and fun without the pressures of winning.
  • It aims to create participants and instructors who will continue in the game.
  • The motto is Fun, Fitness and Fair Play.
