Recreation Hockey:

This is a recreational level of hockey that is open to a variety of skill levels for all ages. This program is designed for players to be part of a team, have fun, develop their skills and build lasting friendships.

Recreation hockey requires less time commitment and less travel than the more competitive rep programs. There is minimal travel, in the form of occasional exhibition games and up to two out of town tournaments. The exception is U9 Development, see program details.

In U11-U18, there is a competitive element to the league with playoffs being played at the end of the season. The two top teams in each division will finish the season by facing off in the Night of Champions.

Please see below for the recreation program details in each age group

*Please note that there may be some changes to the U7 and U9 programs due to the announcement from the City of Kamloops regarding a new mini rink at McArthur Island Sports Centre. Continue to look here for any updates.

U21 Recreation - New for the 2025/2026 Season

We will be running a pilot program for U21 players who would like to continue playing minor hockey. If the interest is there, we plan to hold two teams that would play one game per week. We will cap the numbers at 36 skaters and 4 goalies.

U18 Recreation Practices: For the 2025/2026 season, we will have a new process in place for U18 recreation practices. It can be challenging for some players in this division to attend regular weekly practices, so KMHA is going to offer a drop-in style practice.

  • If a player is interested in attending a practice for the following week, they will sign up for available practice sessions on the Friday of the previous week.
  • KMHA will post the weekly registration form on the 'Recreation' page of the KMHA website. Players will sign up on the link and will be a first come first serve basis for each session.
  • The interest will determine the number of weekly practices that are held. Players can only attend one practice per week.
  • Head Coaches will rotate through running the sessions.

Female Recreation Hockey

Kamloops MHA intends to have female only recreation teams in all divisions U9 to U18. The number of females registering for Female teams will determine the number of teams that we have.

Female recreation teams in U11 and above will play within an OMAHA administered league so travel throughout the OMAHA district for league games will be required.

Please see the Female Hockey page for more details on the female program.
